The green season runs from late May or June through early October (although this past year, it lasted all the way through November!). Most locals - and many visitors - absolutely love the rainy season because it brings cooler nights, a lush greenness to the surrounding hills, and quieter beaches. There is nothing more refreshing than sitting on a terrace at night, feeling the cool air and listening to the rush of water falling. And there might be nothing more spectacular than watching a Zihua lightning show in the middle of the night.
The green season does bring with it more mosquitoes who especially come out at dusk. Liberally apply bug repellent and clean up any standing water during these months to keep from getting eaten alive. In recent years, incidents of dengue fever have been on the rise so the need for repellent is especially important.
