About Bev
While working to develop WeHeartZihua, Bev realized just how deep her passion for other cultures is – and how long it has influenced her life. As a dorky, 4-eyed sci-fi geek who was regularly beat up after band class, she based her college choices on which schools offered study abroad programs. Unfortunately, none of the schools she looked at offered a program in another galaxy but she finally escaped as a college junior to spend a year at university in London. This endeavor proved alien enough. She quickly discovered how surprisingly different English culture – and even the English language – is from that of the US.
Bev continued her exploration of various cultures even after college with classes in Belly Dancing and Middle Eastern Culture, Japanese Taiko Drumming, and ultimately found herself living full-time in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Now that she has settled down in Zihua, Bev has turned her international focus towards cooking. Her friends travel the world with her as she serves Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, British, Mexican, and Cajun food at regular dinner parties. And yes, Cajun cooking is almost as foreign to standard American fare as Japanese!
When Bev isn’t in the kitchen or indulging her continued love affair with sci-fi, you can find her walking the beach with her daughter, Trinity, in the stroller or at a local restaurant, indulging in someone else’s cooking. (And if she likes what she tastes, she is not afraid to ask the chef for their recipe either!) Because chasing a 2 year old around isn’t exhausting enough, Bev also manages her husband, Andy’s computer software business, works with the clients for Grupo de Las Poderosas’ other venture, Mexico Relocation Services, and continues maintaining her qualifications as an Employee Benefits/Retirement Plan attorney. And, oh yes, she is co-editor of this handy-dandy website. In addition to dreams of ending poverty, reducing greenhouse gases, and promoting world peace, Bev dreams of having a swimming pool in her backyard and owning a stainless steel gas barbecue.
